Jelly Chime
I made a jellyfish windchime for my first hackathon, a four hour segment of time to make something from scratch. I wanted to build something that combined nature with a common object. I was inspired by the similarities in form between jellyfish and windchimes, and so I decided to combine the two. This was the first time i made a project in such a short condensed period of time, and it was a great learning experience. It pushed me to think creatively and work under a tight deadline without stressing myself out and getting sloppy. Overall, it was a fun experience.
I made the jelly chime using metal straws, clear string, and acrylic cut with a laser cutter. I made two rings with holes set into them. In one ring I tied the straws through each hole, and in the other I tied acrylic shaped like tentacles, which I designed using Inkscape. After the straws and tentacles were secured onto their separate rings, I tied each ring onto a much smaller ring to hang from.
